The beauty of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and the sparkle of the beautiful holiday music combine in a way that has made this concert a holiday favorite. Joining the Chorus this year will be the Paxton Singers, a Platte City Chorus of fifth and sixth grade singers directed by Jennifer Stammers, SJCC Assistant Director. This outstanding group performed recently at the Missouri Music Educators Conference.

A German Requiem
by Johannes Brahms

May 4, 2014, 3:00 p.m.

Cathedral of St. Joseph
519 N. 10th Street
St. Joseph, MO

Masterworks are a favorite of St. Joseph audiences. The German Requiem was completed by Brahms in 1866. Two tragic events within a space of nine years spurred the writing of this work: the death of Robert Schumann in 1856 and the death of his mother in 1865. Brahms compiled the libretto himself from the Luther Bible, choosing texts that offer hope and security for the faithful and comfort during times of loss. Dr. Rico McNeela, Artistic Director of the St. Joseph Symphony, will conduct the chorus and orchestra in the performance of this beautiful work.
Soloists [in order of appearance]:
